Doctor Who 7.01-Asylum of the Daleks

Doctor Who is back!  After eight long months we finally get the first episode of season 7.  Was it worth the wait?  Without a doubt.  "Asylum of the Daleks" had all of the classic Who elements.

Villains?  Check.
Surprises?  Oh yeah.
Scary scenes?  Some of the best since the reboot.
Running?  Lots of it.

In this episode, the Doctor, Amy, and Rory are captured by the Daleks and taken to their home world of Skaro.  They confine any Dalek that goes insane to the planet.  What makes a Dalek go insane?  That is one of the fun surprises Moffat has written into this story.  At one point, a human starship crashed on the planet.  One of the crew survived and set up a force field that keeps the Daleks out.  She is broadcasting music that the Daleks do not like at all.  The Doctor, who the Daleks refer to as The Predator, and his companions are sent to the surface.  They need to work their way into the protected part of the ship and get the person to turn off the force field for the Daleks.  The Doctor plans on rescuing the survivor and escaping the planet before the Daleks destroy it.

Some of the scariest scenes involve the dead crew members who have been turned into Daleks.  Just imagine a zombie/Dalek hybird.

Of course things do not go as planned.  Moffat plants seeds for future stories.  I will watch this episode a few times but knowing Moffat, all will not be revealed.  Later when he pulls this all together, it will make perfect sense.  He promised that this season each episode will be like a movie.  He certainly pulled it off with this one.  I can't wait to see the next episode with a spaceship full of dinosaurs.  This looks to be a great season for Doctor Who.

This episode qualifies for the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril on the Screen challenge.

Yes, we really enjoyed the first episode. I am not one who complains about the Daleks, I love it whenever they come back in as it reminds me of falling in love with Dr. Who as a kid. Was great to see everyone again. I'm getting more and more attached to Matt Smith with each episode. And I have to say I really liked the girl who will be the new companion.

Yeah she was great. I was thrilled when I read on the internet that it was a sneak peak at the actress that will play the next companion.
