Great list, Jim! I'm not that familiar with Silverberg or Varley, but I know you can't go wrong with Asimov and Ellison. Asimov's Homo Sol was on a prior year's DealMe In list of mine. I also really enjoyed his autobiography, "I, Asimov" a few years back.

I love this idea! it has a fun and interesting set up, much more interesting than just saying "I'm going to read this short story collection by this author".
My plan is to alternate between each of the authors. Next up is a story by Asimov.
I thought this was an interesting idea for a challenge.
