Locke & Key Vol. 1: Welcome to Lovecraft

Title:  Welcome to Lovecraft
Author:  Joe Hill
Artist:  Gabriel Rodriquez
First Publication:  IDW Publishing, 2009

Synopsis:

From Goodreads:
Locke & Key tells of Keyhouse, an unlikely New England mansion, with fantastic doors that transform all who dare to walk through them.... and home to a hate-filled and relentless creature that will not rest until it forces open the most terrible door of them all... Acclaimed suspense novelist and New York Times best-selling author Joe Hill (Heart-Shaped Box) creates an all-new story of dark fantasy and wonder, with astounding artwork from Gabriel Rodriguez.

I can't say enough good things about the first collection of "Locke & Key".  The only negative comment I can make is that I am disappointed I did not read it when it was published.

Joe Hill (Stephen King's son) does an excellent job with the characterization and the way he slowly reveals the plot.  The tension builds at just the right time.  He makes you care about the characters then puts them into situations where you are not sure if they are going to survive.

The art by Gabriel Rodriquez perfectly fits the title.  He captures the childlike innocence of the kids and the horror of what happens to them.

I can't wait to read what happens next.
